A free, open-source Pathfinder/d20 MUD
Luminari is a persistent multiplayer RPG where tabletop rules meet a world that keeps moving between sessions. Build a character, cross Ashenport, hunt the planes, and leave new marks on the map—one command at a time.

One room is enough
You read a room, type a command, and the world answers. A MUD is a persistent multiplayer RPG played through text commands — deep where it counts, and simpler to start than it looks.
Illustrative preview — drafted for the migration, pending review against a live game room.
look
The lamps of Ashenport bend in a salt wind. A courier argues with the innkeeper beneath a map scored by old Swiftpath routes.
Exits: north — Pilgrim's Steps; east — The Pipe and Ivories.

north
You climb the Pilgrim's Steps. Rain has worn the prayer-marks smooth, and the harbor lanterns swing far below.
Exits: south — the taproom; up — the shrine landing.
ask innkeeper about courier
The innkeeper wipes a glass and nods toward the corner. "Swiftpath riders don't argue unless a road is closed. Buy him a drink and ask about the pass yourself."
Try a command:
Familiar rules, unscripted outcomes
cast 'magic missile' courier
You weave the last syllable. Three bolts of force streak across the taproom.
[3d4+3 force — spell resistance: none — save: none]
The courier staggers into the Swiftpath map, tearing it from the wall. The innkeeper reaches for a bell rope.
Exact counts are published only after the world-data audit verifies them.
Build a person, not a preset
A warlock whose bargains follow them into every room.
An arcanist trading warmth for an endgame identity.
A martial traveler who makes the routes safer by walking them.
These are editorial entry paths through real options, not in-game classes — the full race, class, and prestige list follows the data audit.
The Unfinished Atlas
Systems leave tracks
Great Hunts and scripted encounters resolve through the same d20 machinery you know from the table — initiative, positioning, saves — and their outcomes persist in the world rather than resetting when you log out.
> hunt
A defeated quarry stays defeated; the reward enters the economy.
Gathered materials become items other players can carry, trade, and lose. Object data is real game state, not flavor text — the same records the object tools read.
> craft
A forged blade exists as an object in the world's database.
Travel is charted: seaports, vessels, and Swiftpath routes connect regions on the actual world map. Choosing a route is choosing what you might find on it.
> sail
A route choice lands you in a region with its own zones and risks.

Recommended for a first session
No installation, nothing to configure. The browser client opens on Grapevine in a new tab and connects you straight to the game.
Recommended for longer play: mapping, stats, and customization in a dedicated client.
